HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A former Connecticut Department of Social Services employee has been arrested, accused of stealing nearly $23,000 in state benefits.
Katheryn Maties, a 41-year-old Bristol resident, was arrested Tuesday by the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office and charged with one count of first-degree larceny. A message was left seeking comment on Maties’ home answering machine.
The DSS Investigations Divisions, Office of Quality Assurance, filed a complaint alleging that Maties appeared to have issued State Administered General Assistance benefits in 2011 and 2012 to four clients who did not apply for them. Authorities said Maties then withdrew the funds for herself.
Authorities said the clients were unaware of the alleged scheme.
Maties was released on a written promise to appear and is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 15 in New Britain Superior Court.
