Guilford Police were called to the town green Wednesday afternoon after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a man the caller said was screaming, yelling and threatening children gathered on the green after an early dismissal from school.
Witnesses said 50 year old Brendan Garvey of Madison implied he had a gun and made gestures to mimic the loading and pointing of a pistol.It was also reported Garvey told the children he may have a bomb in his backpack.
When police located Garvey, they found he did not have a gun, just a cellphone and a silver pen type tire guage.No explosives were found.
Garvey is charged wth Threatening, Risk of Injury to Minor and Breach of Peace.
He was sent to Yale-New Haven Hospital for evaluation.
