Murphy Praises State Launch Of ‘Obamacare’

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ U.S. Sen. Christopher Murphy says the launch of federal health insurance in Connecticut is better than expected despite the troubles plaguing the program nationwide.

The junior Democratic senator visited a health care center in New Haven on Wednesday. The New Haven Register reports ( ) that Murphy said the problems elsewhere in the United States have not occurred in Connecticut.

Numerous computer problems have kept consumers nationwide from signing up with the health care exchanges since the Oct. 1 launch.

Murphy urged patience. He said the government did not expect the private insurance exchanges would see large numbers early as most people wait until the Dec. 15 deadline before making a decision.

More than 3,800 individuals have signed up for coverage through Access Health CT between Oct. 1 and Oct. 15.
