The town of West Hartford has put the kibosh on medical marijuana, for now.

West Hartford became the latest Connecticut town to halt medical marijuana from sprouting up.

In a unanimous town council vote last night, they adopted a new ordinance that gives the town nine months to revise codes in town to regulate marijuana dispensary facilities, marijuana production facilities or pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities before the town allows such a facility.

The nine-month period is only an end date and the moratorium could be lifted if regulations are adopted before then.

State officials expect to award three licenses for marijuana producers and three to five to dispensaries in the beginning of 2014, meaning West Hartford will likely be left out of that first round.
