West Hartford, ASD Being Sued

The parents of an American School for the Deaf student are suing the school and the town of West Hartford.

Audley and Judith Muschette, from the Bronx, N.Y., are seeking a damages for a multitude of charges against the school including assault, negligence and battery involving their 12-year-old son.

The suit describes a pair of incidents earlier this year. The first in March when a staff member allegedly choked the boy and forcibly threw him to the ground resulting in head injuries and scarring. The incident was not investigated and the staff member is still employed.

The second happened a month later when the student, who is part of a program involving emotional and behavioral disorders, was being rowdy, wrapping a phone wire around his neck, and ran away – forcing the school to call police. The boy then reportedly threw rocks at the officers when they arrived, so they used a stun gun on him and handcuffed him.

The suit also alleges ASD tried to force the student to leave the school.
