UConn Paying $5.5-M Settlement In Student Bus Death

UConn is paying $5.5-million to settle a lawsuit from the family of a student who was struck and killed by a Storrs campus shuttle bus.

David Plamondon’s estate is represented by attorney Mike Walsh.

“The Plamondon family felt strongly that students should not be operating the shuttle buses at UConn,” Walsh said. “College students are subjected to a lot of distractions in everyday life, and this bus driver was distracted, and that is why this tragedy occurred.”

The student driving the bus had waved to another bus driver, before running over Plamondon.

Students will still be allowed behind the wheel of the shuttles, even after the settlement.
