Auditors Express Concern About DSS

The state auditors are expressing concern about three cases of misuse of state money which the Department of Social Services did not report to them.

Auditors Robert Ward and John Geragosian wrote Governor Malloy to outline their concerns.  They say DSS did conduct internal investigations and called prosecutors and imposed discipline,  but says they did not inform the auditors.

Ward says the auditors did not find out for three years in one of the case.  He says  its important that the auditors be informed,  so they can take steps to deter fraud,  and to make sure that proper controls are in place to detect fraud.  The auditors found out about the fraud this year when talking to agency personnel during their regular audits.
