South Windsor Teen Charged With Manslaughter Makes Quick Court Appearance

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) _ A 19-year-old South Windsor woman has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges in a high-speed crash that killed two passengers in her car.

Police say Sara Ballard was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the sport utility vehicle she was driving left Abbe Road in South Windsor while traveling more than 80 mph and struck a tree on May 25.

Fifteen-year-old Brook Wormstedt of East Windsor and 18-year-old Matthew Masse of Vernon, were killed in the crash.

Ballard entered her plea in Manchester Superior Court on Thursday. She is charged with manslaughter with a motor vehicle, second-degree, reckless driving, and driving under the influence.
