Motorcyclist Critical After Crash

A motorcyclist is in  critical condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury after  his motorcycle  was hit from behind  by a car driven by a woman Wolcott police say  appeared to be texting .Police say  Stephanie Clavell of Waterbury was traveling west on Meriden  Road and  slammed into the back of a motorcycle operated by  Terrence Doyle  of Wolcott.It happened  just before 5:30 Tuesday afetrnoon.

The motorcycle  was stopped behind an SUV at a  red light at Meriden Road  and Todd Road.When struck from behind by Clavell’s vehicle, the motorcycle hit the SUV, then  went backwards and Doyle  went head first into the windshield of  Clavell’s car.He was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the SUV,Amy Couverethia of Waterbury,  had an outstanding warrant  for failure to respond to an infraction she had received in the past.She was also cited for having an expired registration.

Niether Clavell  or Couverethia required medical treatment.

The investigation is continuing and charges  for Clavell will follow.
