WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) _ The Waterbury school system has hired two women tied to a scandal in the failed congressional campaign of former state House Speaker Chris Donovan last year.
The Republican-American reports (http://bit.ly/16lCf7r ) city schools hired Waterbury residents Katie Pino and Dana Graziano in recent months. Pino is an elementary school tutor and Graziano is an elementary school parent liaison.
Federal authorities say Pino and Graziano were among several straw donors in an illegal contributions scheme involving Donovan’s campaign for the 5th Congressional District seat. They and Donovan weren’t accused of any wrongdoing.
Eight people were convicted in the case.
Pino declined to comment. Graziano says she didn’t know anything about the scheme.
School officials say Pino and Graziano’s ties to the scandal weren’t an issue because they weren’t charged with any crime.
