NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ New Haven police say two people died and another was injured when a car crashed into a city gas station at a high rate of speed.

Officer David Hartman says the car smashed into the gas pump canopy structure at the Amity Mobil station at the intersection of routes 63 and 69 at about 5 a.m. Thursday. He says two people in the car died and a third man was injured when he was ejected from the car. The survivor’s injuries aren’t life-threatening.

The men’s names haven’t been released.

Hartman says there was no fire or explosion.

Police have closed Route 63 while they try to determine what caused the crash. The busy intersection is near the Wilbur Cross Parkway.
