River Presents Dangers

Nearly a foot of rain in June has waterways in the state running unusually high.

That’s the case along the Farmington River, where two people have gone missing in the last week.

The river tends to run high after heavy rains and even expert swimmers, kayakers, and tubers will find challenges, if not outright dangers.

Eileen Fielding with the Farmington River Watershed Association says the conditions are such right now that if one runs into trouble it may be too late.

Fielding advises residents to enjoy the river from a distance but refrain from entering it, at least until the waters begin to recede.
