Rescuers were searching the Farmington River late Tuesday afternoon after one member of a group tubing down the river did not make it to shore.
Authorities say seven people in their twenties set off from Burlington, down the river, which is running high and fast because of recent rains. When they encountered rapids in Farmington and found themselves in trouble, six of them were able to get to shore, but one man, a non-swimmer, did not.He has been identified as 25 year old Nasir Alam of East Hartford.
Police say they’re not believed to have been wearing flotation devices.
The visibility in the water was non-existent due to the high water table, rapid river flow and mud that was kicked up from the river bottom.
The search will resume in the morning if river conditions improve.
