Schools Lockdown Lifted In Newington

Police in Newington are investigating after they say they received a report of a despondent man in an apartment building on Willard Avenue.

Around 10 o’clock this morning, officers reported that a woman had been talking to the man when she heard what she thought was a gunshot and the man stopped talking.

The incident forced the temporary lockdown of Newington High School and St. Mary’s School, which are in close proximity to the incident scene.

The apartment building was evacuated and upon entry into one of the units, a man’s body was found.

Police say it appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No one in the schools were affected and the lockdown has since been lifted.
