Police, FBI Investigate Elementary School Threat In Newtown

Police and the FBI are investigating, after someone made a threat against an elementary school in Newtown today.

Interim Superintendent of Schools John Reed says a call came in about 2:05 this afternoon.

“A phone call was received at the Hawley School containing an implied threat to the Hawley School,” Reed said. “In addition to the police man who was present when the call came in, other members of the Newtown Police department and the chief Michael Kehoe arrived within 5 minutes.”

The entire school district was put into a modified lockdown, in which doors are locked, but children continued with their classes.

The modified lockdown has since been lifted.

High school and middle school dismissal was delayed, and those students may get home more than a half an hour late.
