HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ President Barack Obama has nominated Quinnipiac University law professor Jeffrey Meyer to serve as a U.S. District Court judge in Connecticut.

Meyer’s nomination was announced Friday.

U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy of Connecticut say Meyer has the talent, temperament and tenacity to be a great judge, and they’ll work hard to win his confirmation.

U.S. District Judge Mark Kravitz’s death last year created a vacancy on the federal bench in Connecticut.

Meyer has taught law at Quinnipiac since 2006 and is a visiting professor at Yale Law School.

The 1989 Yale Law School graduate clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Harry Blackmun in the early 1990s and served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Connecticut from 1995 to 2004.

Meyer didn’t immediately return messages Friday.
