Murder Charge Added in New Haven Death

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ New Haven police have charged a city man with murder in the death of a woman whose body was found in a burning apartment.

Authorities added the murder charge Tuesday against 35-year-old Frank Moore. He initially was charged with first-degree assault Monday in connection with the death of his roommate, 31-year-old Georgette Alston.

Police were called to a domestic dispute at Moore and Alston’s third-floor apartment on Whalley Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. Monday. The apartment was on fire when officers arrived. Alston’s body was found after firefighters put out the blaze.

Police say they arrested Moore on the assault charge after he approached officers at the scene.

It’s not clear if Moore has an attorney.
Officials haven’t said how Alston died. Autopsy results are pending.
