Mashantucket Pequot Treasurer Barred From Doing Business With Federal Gov’t

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The treasurer for the tribe that owns and operates the Foxwoods Resort Casino has been barred from doing business with the federal government.

Steven Thomas of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation was indicted in January on charges that he stole more than $700,000 when he was assistant director of the tribe’s natural resources department. He has pleaded not guilty.

A website for federal procurement systems shows that the Interior Department on Monday declared Thomas ineligible for one year. It cited evidence of a lack of honesty or integrity.
The tribe said in January it was confident in Thomas’ dedication to his duties as a tribal councilor in spite of the federal charges. The tribe and an attorney for Thomas did not immediately respond to requests for comment Wednesday.
