HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Voters in Tolland, Willington and Ashford are scheduled to vote in a June special election to replace former Connecticut state Rep. Bryan Hurlburt.
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill announced Friday that the poll in the 53rd assembly district will take place on Tuesday, June 11 from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.
To appear on the ballot, candidates must submit signatures from voters in the district. The number of signatures required is equivalent to one percent of the total number of votes cast in the previous election.
Merrill said major political parties have until May 6 to endorse a candidate.
The vacancy was created when Hurlburt resigned April 16 to accept a presidential appointment as Farm Service Agency State Executive Director at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
