New Haven Police say a call which came in the midst of heightened security after the Boston Marathon bombing Monday night was a hoax.
Police say offers from the day shift were held through the evening, for extyra patrols, and to inspect and protect key infrastructure and public events. Around 8:30 p.m., they received a call from the answering center at the New York Department of Public Safety, which reported receiving a call threatening a bombing on the New Haven Green.
Police say the call came from the psychiatric ward of Belleview Hospital in New York, and when officers checked the Green, nothing out of the ordinary was found.
Police used the hoax as an opportunity to remind residents and visitors to report anything suspicious to authorities.
