Inmate Caught After Escaping Prison For 12 Hours

EAST LYME, Conn. (AP) _ An inmate who escaped from a Connecticut women’s prison is back in custody after being found walking along Interstate 95 in East Lyme.

State police say troopers and correctional officers found 49-year-old Lori Beyus of Torrington at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday after someone called authorities to report a person walking on the highway.

Beyus walked away from a minimum-security section of York Correctional Institution in the Niantic section of East Lyme on Sunday morning. The prison was placed on lockdown at about 6:15 a.m. Sunday after guards discovered she was missing during breakfast in a dining hall.

Beyus was sentenced in January to more than four years in prison for a robbery in Milford. She’s also serving time for interfering with police, reckless driving and other charges.
