Hartford Council Member Questions Bonuses

As the city of Hartford has been laying off employees, and asking workers for concessions, it has continued to give bonuses to some workers.

Council member Kenneth Kennedy says most of the bonuses have gone to supervisors and supervisor’s assistants.

“It looks like it is backdoor raises, Kennedy said. “You get people who are getting bonuses every year,  it looks like it is part of their regular job work, or part of their regular compensation.  It does not look like it is an exceptional service increment, which is what this is supposed to be.”

Kennedy wants the city council to sign off on future bonuses.

He also wants bonuses to be halted whenever the city lays off employees.

A proposal is scheduled to go before the city council Monday.
