New London Yields Successful Buyback Program

On the second day of the New London Police Department’s gun buyback program, 28 individuals participated and a total of 23 handguns and 19 long guns were collected for destruction. A total of $3,725 in prepaid gift cards were distributed to these individuals in exchange for their weapons.

Along with the weapons collected on the first day, these firearms will be transported to the Connecticut State Police Firearms’ Unit for destruction.

The two-day totals for the gun buyback program was: 75 people surrendered a total of 62 handguns, 63 long guns and 1 assault weapon in exchange for $10,900 in prepaid gift cards. Funds for this program were raised through private donations collected by the Office of the Mayor.
