STRATFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Stratford police say a weekend attack that left an 18-year-old man with nearly a dozen stab wounds appears to have been random.

Police charged 26-year-old Fedele Poppa on Monday with attempted murder, first-degree assault and marijuana possession. He was detained on $250,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Witnesses told police that Poppa was acting strange as he walked through an apartment complex off Canaan Court on Sunday. Police say it appears Poppa randomly targeted the 18-year-old victim in the apartment complex parking lot.

The victim hasn’t been identified. Authorities say he’s in stable condition at Bridgeport Hospital.

It’s not clear if Poppa has a lawyer. State court records show he’s currently on probation for assault, threatening and violating probation in a drug case.
