Global Spectrum, Whale Reach Deal To Keep Team AT XL Center Through 2016

The new company chosen to manage the XL Center has reached an agreement with MSG,  owner of  the Connecticut Whale ,  for the AHL team  to continue to play their home games at the XL Center.  Ability to secure a minor league hockey contract was one of the considerations in the selection of Global Spectrum to manage the XL Center in downtown Hartford and Rentschler Field in East Hartford.

The contract calls for the team to play at the XL Center through the 2016 season,  with a provision that could extend the deal for an additional two years.

The Whale,  currently with a 25 wins/23 losses record,  are in second place in the Northeast Division of the AHL’s Easterb Conference.

Chair Suzanne Hopgood of the Capital Region Development Authority called the multi-year deal “great news for Hartford and the state.

Whale General Manager Jim Schoenfeld says the team appreciates Hartford and local fans,  and values its past 16 seasons in the city.
