FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ Police say a standoff with a man involved in a domestic dispute who barricaded himself in a Connecticut residence ended when he apparently took his own life.
Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara told WVIT-TV that police surrounded the home Saturday night after the man, apparently armed, barricaded himself inside.
Police told the TV station the man had hit his girlfriend over the head with a gun and had threatened to kill her, but she managed to escape and contact police.
Authorities evacuated some properties during the standoff.
The police chief said police were unable to contact the man before he apparently killed himself.
