On Thursday January 31, at 11:51 a.m., Vernon Police received a 9-1-1 call from a West Street resident, who reported that two people just tried to break into her home. The resident gave the police dispatcher the vehicle description and a license plate. The resident also described to the police dispatcher that a female was driving the car and a male was a passenger.
Several Vernon Police Officers were immediately sent to the area. A Vernon Police Officer responding to the call observed the suspect vehicle driving on Vernon Avenue, near Brooklyn Street and stopped the car, which was a red, four-door 2003 Kia Spectrum.
The suspect vehicle was occupied by a female, identified as Jacqueline Melcher, 26, and the right, front seat passenger was identified as Bryan Connors, 29. Both Melcher and Connors are from Springfield.
Melcher and Connors were arrested by Vernon Police. The home they attempted to break into was occupied by an adult female resident.
Connors has an extensive criminal history, including prior Burglary convictions in both Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Melcher is being held on a $50,000 bond and Connors is being held in lieu of a $150,000 bond. Vernon Police are looking into whether Melcher and Connors are connected to other burglaries in the area.
