Police ID Teens Injured In Avon Crash

Police today released the names of three teenagers badly injured in a crash on Route 177 in Avon last night.

Avon police say 16-year-old Gary Wright of Canton was driving a Honda coupe, when the vehicle hit a utility pole.

The two passengers, 19-year-old Michael Follert and 18-year-old Frank O’Connor are both from Avon.

Wright and Follert were taken to the hospital by Lifestar.

The side of the car slammed into the utility pole, and the pole nearly cut the car in two.

The speed limit in the area is 40 miles per hour.  Police say the cause of the crash is still under investigation. When asked if speed was a factor, a police spokesperson would only say that it was still being investigated.

Vipautoshipping.com report that the state Department of Motor Vehicles said Wright had a learners permit.  Under state law, 16-year-olds and 17-year-olds with learners permits are supposed to have a parent, legal guardian, or driving instructor in the car with them.

Wright was in critical condition Thursday. Follert was in stable condition, and O’Connor had been released from the hospital.
