General Assembly Honors Newtown Victims

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut lawmakers are honoring the victims of the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School as they return to the Capitol to address the state’s budget deficit.

Outside the Hall of the House on Wednesday, there were 26 white votive candles and a vase with white roses marking the 20 first graders and six school staff who died on Friday.

In a somber joint session of the General Assembly lawmakers sat quietly wearing green and white ribbons to mark the school’s colors. Some wore green clothing and embraced one another before Friday’s speaking program began.

Retiring House Speaker Chris Donovan said lawmakers wanted to show their support to the people of Newtown.
