Teen Sentenced In Deadly Simsbury Crash

An Enfield Superior Court judge today sentenced a Simsbury teenager to 8 months in jail, in a deadly car crash.

Austin Buckmann was accused of drinking, driving too fast for conditions, and driving recklessly, before his car hit a utility pole in June of 2011.

Buckmann’s defense attorney Jake Donovan said his client has been effected by the tragedy.

“It has caused him to mature beyond his years,” Donovan said.  “It has also caused him to relfect uppon the mistakes he made that evening, and also on the fact that no matter what he does it will never bring his best friend back.”

Buckmann spoke to the court about his attempt to save his friend, after the crash.

Passenger Tommy Tanski was killed in the crash.

The sentence also calls for Buckmann to perform community service.
