HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Police have charged a Hartford man with sexual assault and other crimes in the attack on a woman found dangling from a window at an abandoned house.

Police say Kenneth Maestas was charged Sunday with sexual assault with a firearm, second-degree strangulation, unlawful restraint and threatening.

The woman told police she was beaten and raped. Officers responded at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday and found her hanging from the window while trying to reach a balcony.

Police say she was taken to Hartford Hospital with face and head injuries.

The 42-year-old Maestas was in custody on $500,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court Tuesday.

It was not known Monday morning if he is represented by a lawyer.
