WWE Wrestler Accused Of Hitting Fan During Show Monday Night
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS Connecticut) — World Wrestling Entertainment wrestler CM Punk allegedly hit a fan at the closing of “Raw” on Monday night.
Punk – whose real name is Phil Brooks – ran into the stands at the conclusion of his match with WWE CEO Vince McMahon.
A video posted on YouTube shows several fans surrounding him, with Punk swiping away the hands of people trying to touch him and his championship belt.
Punk was then shoved a couple of times in the back by a person in a white shirt. The unidentified person then blatantly waved his middle finger near Punk before smacking him in the back of the head.
Punk can then be seen turning around, provoked, but appears to go after the wrong fan by hitting him in the face and shoving him down.
All of this took place as McMahon looked on in the ring.
According to CBS Sacramento reporter Laura Cole, the unidentified fan subsequently filed a police report. He reportedly complained that his glasses were broken by Punk during the melee.
The fan also told Cole that he never touched Punk.
WWE spokesman Kevin Hennessy said in a statement to CBS Connecticut that Punk apologizes for the incident.
“WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment. Other than this isolated incident, WWE always provides proper security to ensure the safety of our fans and our performers.”
