Report: Kellen Winslow Granted Release From Patriots

View Comments

BOSTON (CBS) — Kellen Winslow’s career as a New England Patriots is reportedly over after a little more than one week.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss and Adam Schefter, Winslow asked the team for his release, and the Patriots granted that request.

Winslow, 29, signed with the Patriots last week after Aaron Hernandez suffered an ankle injury against the Cardinals in Week 2. Winslow made his Patriots debut Sunday night against the Ravens, when he caught one pass for a 12-yard pickup and a first down. The catch came on one of Winslow’s four snaps on the night.

Winslow caught 75 passes for the Buccaneers last season, but he was released by the Seahawks in training camp this summer.

Hernandez is expected to miss several more weeks with his ankle injury, though he was seen by reporters on Thursday and he walked without a limp.
