West Hartford Man Charged With Hate Crime In Verbal Attack On Muslim Woman
West Hartford Police say a local man is due in court later this month after a verbal attack on a woman he believed to be Muslim.
Police were called to a North Main Street drugstore Saturday afternoon after a man, who said he was unhappy about last week’s attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya in which four Americans died, began berating the woman, and followed her into the parking lot, where he continued the obscenity-filled tirade.
Police got a description of the man and his vehicle and later arrested 68-year-old Michael Germain at his Mountain Road home. He’s charged with breach of peace, threatening, and hate crime.
