After his loss in the Democratic primary earlier this month,  there was some question whether Speaker of the State House Chris Donovan would run as a candidate of the Working Families Party,  who had cross-endorsed him.

Now Secretary of the State Denise Merrill says she’s received a letter from Donovan,  officially withdrawing his candidacy from the minor party nomination.  She says the Working Families Party has until next Wednesday,  September 5,  to nominate a candidate if it chooses to be on the ballot for the Fifth District Congressional Race.

Democrat Elizabeth Esty and Republican Andrew Roraback won their parties’ nominations in the August 14 primary.
