Water Service Fully Restored After Multiple Water Main Breaks

Water service has been fully restored in an area of Hartford’s South End after multiple water main breaks.

Officials with the Metropolitan District Commission say when a fire hydrant on Airport Road was hit and sheared off,  a valve inside the hydrant quickly shut off the water.  But that in turn caused hammering water to back up in the pipes,  and caused several breaks in the water main.  For a time more than thirty businesses in the area were left without water service,  including some restaurants.
