NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ An attorney for a man arrested after police said he brought a loaded handgun to a Connecticut movie theater showing “The Dark Knight Rises” says he is a lawyer who had a legal right to carry the weapon.
Hugh Keefe told The Associated Press he’s representing 46-year-old Sung H. Hwang. He called the arrest baseless and blamed New Haven Chief Dean M. Esserman for ordering the arrest.
Hwang was charged with breach of peace and interfering with police after officers said they found a handgun in his waistband. Police say he had a permit to carry the weapon.

Police say Hwang refused officers’ orders to put his hands up and remained in his seat, using his cell phone.
A message was left for Esserman, who has praised the officers who responded.
