Man Charged In Fatal Boating Accident In Union

ROCKVILLE, Conn. (AP) _ State environmental police have charged a Middletown man with manslaughter and boating under the influence for an accident on Mashapaug Lake in Union that killed another man.

Police with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection say they arrested 41-year-old Michael Antol on Friday in connection with the accident on April 21 that killed 40-year-old Richard Franas of the Amston section of Hebron.

Authorities say Antol was operating a 17-foot power boat with Franas as the only passenger aboard when it ran aground. Franas died of his injuries four days later. Antol suffered minor injuries.

Antol was to be arraigned in Rockville Superior Court on Friday. He didn’t immediately return a phone message Friday, and it’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
