HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal says he
and colleagues are calling for a summit of equipment and apparel
manufacturers interested in outfitting future U.S. Olympic teams.

The American uniforms for the London Games were made in China,
which sparked congressional criticism of the U.S. Olympic
Committee.

The Connecticut Democrat said Friday that he and others
suggested the summit to the committee as a way to showcase U.S.
manufacturers. Blumenthal says the use of American-made apparel by
U.S. Olympians is important symbolically for U.S. companies.

Designer Ralph Lauren said last week the uniforms it provides
the U.S. Olympic team at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia,
will be made in the United States.

Blumenthal said he is also supporting legislation that would
require U.S. teams wear American-made apparel.
