Police Release Video Showing Attempted Abduction

New Britain Police today released a surveilance video showing the attempted abduction of an 11-year-old girl.

The girl told police she was walking to a summer camp last Friday when an older man on Highland Terrace approached her in the minivan and attempted to grab her. The girl managed to escape, ran home and told her mother.

A video taken of the incident taken by a resident’s surveillance camera confirms the girl’s story.

Police say the man was in his 30’s or 40’s, with salt-and-pepper hair and a scruffy beard, longer around his chin.

Detective Michael Cummiskey said the man tried to lure the girl over by offering her something that might be appealing to most girls that age. Cummiskey added it appeared that the man had to reach outside to open the minivan door.

Cummiskey says the minivan was gray or silver, an older model, and very dirty near the bottom.

If you have any information regarding the case please contact Detective Michael Cumminskey at 860-826-3004.
