Each year since 1980, residents from around the region have converged on the banks of the Connecticut River in Hartford and East Hartford for the annual “Riverfest” celebration. This year’s activities start at 4 p.m. and wrap up with the fireworks display from the river tat 9 p.m.
“Riverfront Recapture” President and CEO Joe Marfuggi tells WTIC’s Ray Dunaway the activities will take place at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in Hartford and Great River Park in East Hartford, and will include performances on four separate stages, two in Hartford and two in East Hartford.
Entertainment will range from bounce houses and face-painting to street hockey, from jazz to zydeco and hypnosis to stunt bicycles. For a link to Riverfest information, click here.
Marfuggi says the fireworks this year should be extra-special, as Atlas Fireworks brings in an additional barge for the presentation, which it is using as a rehearsal for its entry in an international competition in Toronto later this month.
