DANIELSON, Conn. (AP) _ A Willimantic woman has been charged with first-degree manslaughter and other crimes in connection with the death of her 3-year-old daughter in November.
Twenty-six-year-old Rosa Diaz-Mendez was held on $500,000 bail Tuesday after being arraigned in Danielson Superior Court.
Diaz-Mendez’s boyfriend, Fredy Alexander Chingo Riz, is also charged with manslaughter in the death of Athena Angeles and is being held on $1.5 million bail. The medical examiner’s office ruled the girl’s death a homicide and said she died of blunt abdominal and chest trauma, including broken ribs and lacerations to her liver.
Police haven’t released details of Diaz-Mendez’s alleged role in her daughter’s death. Her public defender didn’t immediately return a message Wednesday.
Police allege Chingo Riz is a Guatemala citizen who’s in the U.S. illegally.
