HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – State police say they investigated 279 crashes on Connecticut roadways over the Memorial Day weekend.
Those include one fatal accident on Route 8 in Waterbury.
Authorities said Tuesday that troopers also made 77 drunk-driving arrests and issued 1,797 tickets for speeding. Another 816 people were cited for not wearing seat belts.
Troopers participated with police in other states in the national Combined Accident Reduction Effort program, or CARE. The Connecticut enforcement effort ran from Friday through midnight on Monday.
During Memorial Day weekend last year, Connecticut state police responded to 260 accidents including four fatal crashes.
