Tigers’ Leyland Ejected In Third At Fenway
BOSTON (AP) _ Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland and third-base coach Gene Lamont were ejected in the third inning of Monday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.
Leyland was upset over a call that allowed Boston’s Mike Aviles to stay at the plate in the second. Aviles appeared to strike out for the final out, but it was ruled a foul tip that bounced before it was gloved by catcher Gerald Laird; replays showed it was not tipped and did not bounce.
Aviles followed with an RBI single, then Daniel Nava doubled and scored to give Boston a 4-1 lead.
Leyland and Lamont argued with third-base umpire Tim Tschida before the start of the third. Leyland had returned to the dugout and resumed arguing from there when the two coaches were tossed.
