Girardi Won’t Make Any Decisions On Robertson Until His Return

NEW YORK (AP) _ Yankees manager Joe Girardi will not commit to using David Robertson as his closer when the reliever returns from a ribcage injury.

Girardi says before New York played the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night that Rafael Soriano is the closer now. Soriano is 3 for 3 in save chances since Mariano Rivera tore a knee ligament May 3.

Robertson initially replaced Rivera and went one for two in save opportunities. He went on the DL on May 15 after straining a muscle in his left ribcage.

Girardi said he will not make any decisions until Robertson returns, which is at least a week away. Girardi says he trusts
Soriano because the right-hander has been successful as a closer with Tampa Bay.
