William Tong Leaving US Senate Race

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Democrat William Tong is dropping out of the race for a U.S. Senate seat from Connecticut.

The state representative from Stamford gained some national attention as the only Asian-American candidate for Senate this year in the continental U.S. But Tong was facing tough competition for the Democratic Party’s endorsement from U.S. Rep. Christopher Murphy and former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz.

Bysiewicz campaign manager Jonathan Ducote said Tong called her Tuesday morning and said he would be withdrawing from the race.
