WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) _ A Connecticut judge has rejected a probation program for a former teacher at an all-girls high school in Middlebury charged with sexually assaulting a student.

Thirty-year-old Allen Fitzsimmons’ application for accelerated rehabilitation was denied Monday by a Waterbury Superior Court judge, who cited the woman’s objection to the application. The program could have led to the dismissal of the misdemeanor sexual assault charge against the Northampton, Mass., resident.

The Republican-American of Waterbury reports  the woman, now in her 20s, told police she and Fitzsimmons engaged in sexual activity on at least two occasions at Westover School in Middlebury. She attended the school from 2003 to 2007.

The newspaper reports that Fitzsimmons is on administrative leave from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., where he’s a squash coach.
