STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ University of Connecticut President Susan Herbst has outlined a future for the school that includes 300 more faculty members and a $1 billion endowment.
Herbst, who took the job less than a year ago, gave her first “State of the University” address on Thursday.
Herbst said the school is in the process of recruiting top researchers and professors and plans to increase its faculty by 300 positions by 2016.
She also noted that state support for UConn has fallen to just 28 percent of the school’s budget in calling for an increase in the school’s endowment from about $329 million to $1 billion dollars.
Herbst touted the school’s $864 million bioscience initiative and plans for a new technology park as evidence UConn is helping jump-start the state’s economy.
