Courthouse Evacuated

MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) _ State police have closed down the Superior Court building in Meriden after a white powder was spotted outside near the front doors.

State Police were alerted around 8:05 a.m. Tuesday about the presence of the powder. Biohazard investigators and the major crime squad were sent to investigate.

A state police spokesman says troopers have secured the scene and are in the process of conducting an investigation.

The substance was taken to a lab for testing.

A court spokesman says it’s unclear when the building will reopen.
