Southington Garage Fire Destroys Vehicles

Flames destroyed a garage on Clark Street in Southington this afternoon.

Disturbed Image Truck Club president Mike Serrano says his group used the building to modify vehicles for shows.

“There is so much labor, so much blood and sweat in this shop.  It is not just a hang out,” Serrano said.  “Pretty much every day and night, as soon as we get out of our normal jobs, we come down here and hang out and go to work.”‘

The club had five vehicles in the building, one from 1946.

Kyle Pflugbeil could see a Chevy Blazer he had been working on in the wreckage of the garage.

“I’m kind of in shock right now,” Pflugbeil said.  “I can’t take it all in.  A lot of time, a lot of money was in there.”

Firefighters managed to prevent a recently-filled, 2-thousand gallon diesel fuel tank from catching fire.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters say no one was in the building when the fire started.
